We are from Germany and had the luck to get an appartement at latitude 16 Beaches with a beautyful view to 4 mile beach. We and our 3 Children (11,14,17) enjoyed it very much to stay there and will surely come back.
Port Douglas is a nice little town. Though it`s very touristy it is not as exhausting as Cairns. You find some lovely Restaurants and bars, which are not too expensive. You should absolutely do a trip to Daintree and the rainforest, and to the Barrier Reef for snorkeling or diving.
