We stayed in a deluxe (ie renovated) two bedroom self-contained apartment that was right on the main pool. Everything in the accommodation was excellent and I think that we got excellent value for money at this place. We did hire a car so although The Rendezvous is not right at the shops or on the beach it did not matter. As the pools were so nice we spent a lot of time at the resort and you can't beat having coffees bought to you by the pool in the mornings, and tapas and drinks by the pool in the afternoon.
The restaurant food was delicious and great value for money- especially as kids eat free and their food actually fresh and decent, unlike many places that serve fake, frozen chicken nuggets and greasy chips. The restaurant staff were extrememly good too.
Port Douglas is divine. Not (yet!) over-developed. The most beautiful beach in Australia. Lots to do if you want to get out and about but also quiet enough to do nothing at all. Great variety of budget and basic to luxury, high-end accommodation options and also dining experiences.
